Phil Gleason Sculpture
Sara May Love Gallery Phil Gleason’s sculpture challenges the limits of gravity, Physics, and even the laws of nature. When you see his work, you will ask, “How was that done?” or “What is that made of?” and even, “How did he do that?” Gleason believes that we fool ourselves in our daily belief that we master and control nature. He says, “...we may fool ourselves into thinking that we have opposed natural law, but nature still rules. The idea that humans can affect nature is anthropocentric. My work speaks of the antithesis, with the idea that we can simply fix anything in nature.” In this exhibition, you will see playful sculpture with a serious underlying theme. Gleason employs devices in his work such as magnetism, gravity, holograms, mirrors, levity, and hidden mechanics, used to simulate the false impressions that he creates in a believable and authentic presentation. Phil Gleason is a member of the Florida State University League of Graduate Artists. Above: Perpetual, wood & magnets, 44x32x11 inches.
