GADSDEN ARTS CENTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
The popular Art to the Schools continues... plus 2 NEW programs for 2008–2009!

Art to the Schools
This popular school-based program offers art appreciation to the schools along with related cultural and historical educational content. Students learn to “read” a work of art, to observe thoroughly, interpret meaning, gather additional information about the artist, historical period, and culture in which works were created, and to finish with an informed analysis of the each of art. Studio art activities are available to reinforce each lesson.

Art for Literacy
Art is the world’s most universal language, and one of the greatest motivational and inspirational tools. Art for Literacy presentations offer carefully designed lessons that utilize art to motivate and support students’ development of reading and writing skills.

Artists to the Schools
Members of the GAC Artists Guild are available to give presentations to school groups about their artwork (subject matter, medium and techniques) and their life as a professional artist. Successful artists are an inspiration and role model for many of today’s youth.

STUDIO ART CLASSES

DRAWING I: Sept. 4–Oct 9, 1–3pm

DRAWING II: Oct 16–Nov 17, 1–3pm

Tuition $65 ($75 nonmembers)

The Basic Drawing course ranges from the accurate rendering of what is seen to unleashing the imagination in order to experiment, manipulate and explore the media. For both beginning and experienced artists, emphasis will be on the dynamic use of line, accurate proportion, value and patterns of texture. Graphite is the main media; however pen and ink, colored pencil and pastel will also be explored. Learning new or reviewing basic drawing techniques always leads to a higher quality of artwork in all areas of art.

Instructor Linda Pelc is a studio painter, art educator, graphic designer and photographer. Watercolor is her current specialty; however, she has mastered numerous media in 28 years of teaching art in the Clymer Central Schools of Clymer, New York. Linda relocated to Tallahassee in 2006 with a desire to learn the business side of art, and has been actively exhibiting and teaching since her arrival.
